Stop the Edinburgh Airport Drop-Off Rip-Off Business Rates Scrapped for Small Businesses |
Campaigns - Business Rates Scrapped for Small BusinessesThanks to the Scottish Conservatives, many small businesses in Scotland no longer pay any business rates. Many other businesses pay substantially reduced rates. In total, over 70,000 businesses across Scotland have benefitted from the move. Many business owners have stated that this policy, called the Small Business Bonus, has kept them going in these difficult times. According to the Federation of Small Businesses, around one in eight of their members owes their survival to the policy. Both the Conservatives and the Scottish Government favoured the Small Business Bonus, but the the Scottish Government wanted to phase it in over a three year period. The Conservatives demanded that it be accelerated, otherwise they would not back the Scottish Budget. As a result, the policy was accelerated and implemented a year early. Commenting, Gavin Brown said: - The Small Business Bonus is a real shot in the arm to help tens of thousands of small businesses. It has proved to be a lifeline in these very difficult times. I am proud that Conservative pressure ensured this was implemented a year ahead of schedule." |
