Campaigns - Built To Last

Recently, the Conservative Party under the leadership of David Cameron has set out its “Built To Last” programme. This is a projection of our aims and values for our country in the face of modern challenges from a fast evolving world, and a fast evolving lifestyle.

“Built to last” aims to improve everyone’s quality of life in Britain, a modern challenge that can be achieved through strengthening communities and families to form the bedrock of a peaceful and prosperous nation; maintaining a vibrant and dynamic economy; and to sustain environmentally viable surroundings.

Under David Cameron we aspire to ensure that everyone experiences this qualitative improvement in their standards of living. In this detailed document, we have set out a detailed explanation as to how “Built To Last” will make a positive contribution to the lives of everyone.

To name just a few:

  • To help encourage enterprise in both the economy and the community today, the proceeds of economic growth must be shared between investment in the public services and tax reduction;

  • To fight social injustices today, we need to set social enterprises and the voluntary sector free to tackle multiple deprivation through long-term funding, increased scope to innovate and a level playing field with the public sector;

  • To increase general well-being for families today means to enable people to strike a better work life balance through flexible working – the government needs to set an example by making the British public sector a world leader in flexible working;

  • To take a lead in ending global poverty by working towards the target of giving 0.7% of national income in aid by 2013 – and to look every year between now and then to see if it is possible to go further and faster; and

  • To protect the country by introducing a single unified UK border police and proper border controls.
