Campaigns - Say No To Road Tolls Again

No To Tolls

Gavin Brown and the Scottish Conservatives are leading the campaign against the introduction of tolls to Scotland’s roads.

The Labour government wants to introduce a UK wide road pricing scheme. In Scotland the Liberal Democrat Transport Minister, Tavish Scott, says that we need to make road charging happen more quickly in Scotland. This could make Scotland a guinea pig for road tolls.

Gavin Brown said: -

“Road tolls are a regressive form of taxation. Our motorists already pay the highest fuel tax in Europe – it would be unfair to place yet more burdens on them. The suggestion that motorists in some parts of Scotland would have to pay an additional £1 per mile is an outrage.

I campaigned hard against road tolls before the last General Election. It was clear then that people did not want the tolls. The residents of Edinburgh roundly rejected road tolls by a margin of three to one in the referendum. It is time for us all to act again to ensure they do not remain on the agenda.”
