Campaigns - Bring Back The South Suburban Railway

Gavin has campaigned for years, along with other residents and community groups, for the reopening of the Edinburgh South Suburban Railway.

He successfully called for and led a Members Business Debate in the Scottish Parliament to put forward the case to Scottish Ministers.

The debate was well attended by several Community Councils and local residents.

The Scottish Government and the Council have both shown a lack of leadership in driving this forward. Gavin held a group meeting after the debate to capture views and ideas of residents and other stakeholders.

Gavin Brown commented: -

“The potential involvement of a private consortium gives increased strength to the case for reopening the South Sub. The track is already there and is used regularly by freight trains. It would make a difference to many residents in Edinburgh Southern, with stations potentially being located in Morningside, Blackford or Newington, and Cameron Toll. I will continue to campaign for the Scottish Government and the Council to see sense on this project.”
