Campaigns - Restore the Number 18 Bus
As Gavin informed residents in November the No 18 bus service has been cut. The service now ceases at 8pm Monday to Saturday and there is no service at all on Sundays. For many residents in Fairmilehead, Mortonhall, Kaimes, and Gilmerton this is the only direct bus route to the new Royal Infirmary. Since the new ’Out of Hours’ service is centred on the hospital, it is particularly worrying that there is no direct bus at the times it is most likely to be needed. In addition, hospital staff tell us that the last bus should be rescheduled to cater for the shift which comes off duty at 8.00pm. Gavin says: - “When the site for the new hospital was agreed, a promise was made by the Hospital Trust that direct bus services would be provided. This promise must be honoured” Acting on the large response Gavin received to his November information leaflet on the cut to the service, Fairmilehead Councillor Elaine Aitken has raised residents’ concerns with the relevant Council Committee. The Committee has accepted Councillor Aitken’s suggestion to approach NHS Lothian to ask them to provide a subsidy to enable the full service to be reinstated. Lothian Buses have also agreed to re-examine scheduling and the timing of the last bus. GAVIN WILL KEEP UP THE FIGHT FOR YOU - WATCH THIS SPACE. |
