Campaigns - Standing Up for our EnvironmentGavin has spent a lot of time standing up for the unique environment in Edinburgh Southern. He took a heavy involvement in preventing the unsuitable building of a house in a back garden at Craigmillar Park. Gavin worked with the local community to ensure the application was rejected by the Council and then by the Scottish Government on appeal. If the planning application had succeeded, it would have set a worrying precedent for conservation areas in Edinburgh. He was actively involved in the successful campaigns to save the Greenbelt at Liberton Drive, to prevent a mobile phonemast at Balcarres Street and to prevent a mobile phonemast at Whitehouse Loan. Other examples of his efforts include campaigning to prevent a mobile phonemast at Braidburn Valley, to ensure sensible siting of bins at Warrender Park Terrace and to prevent a mobile phonemast at Observatory Road. Gavin said: - "Many people choose to live in Edinburgh Southern because of its unique environment and natural beauty. I will continue to campaign to keep it that way." |
