Campaigns - Safer Roads

road safety

Gavin has been working hard with local residents and community groups to help make roads in Edinburgh South safer.

There are three 'accident blackspots' in particular where he is pressing for action to be taken. These are: -

  • the Braid Road/Braid Hills Road junction
  • the Drum Street/Newtoft Street junction
  • the shops at Buckstone Terrace

Results have already happened at the Braids - thanks to efforts from Councillor Elaine Aitken.

We are pleased to report that red ‘SLOW’ markings have been painted on both sides of Braid Road, just before the junction. This is an important first step in improving road safety there.

Gavin Brown said: -

“I am pleased to see that new red ‘SLOW’ markings have been put in place on Braid Road. However, we still intend to do more to improve safety at the junction.”

On a national level the Conservatives want to see more action taken on road safety. With sensible, targeted funding we can reduce the number of crashes and fatalities on Scotland’s roads.
