News - NUMBER 18 BUS
Gavin has been campaigning hard since November, along with Councillor Elaine Aitken, to get the number 18 bus restored to its previous level of service. The service now ceases at 8pm Monday to Saturday and there is no service at all on Sundays. Many residents in Fairmilehead, Gilmerton, Kaimes and Moredun have found that their direct access to and from the hospital, and other locations along the route, has been severely curtailed. Hospital staff who need a direct service to get to work at the RIE and patients requiring to keep appointments tell us they are seriously inconvenienced. Gavin says: - Acting on the large response we received to our November information leaflet on the cut to the No 18 bus service, Conservative Councillor Elaine Aitken has raised residents’ concerns with the relevant Council Committee. The Committee has accepted Councillor Aitken’s recommendations and it has called for a report on the possibility of adjusting the service schedule to make it more user friendly. The committee has also agreed to approach NHS Lothian with a view to subsidising the route so as to enable the full service to be re-instated. |
