News - ACTION AGAINST BOGUS COLLECTORS
Gavin recently took action against a rogue company, posing as a charity, which was trying to target residents in Buckstone and Craigour. The company called Realmday Limited put leaflets through doors stating that they 'urgently needed clothing' and that they 'provide people in third world countries with clothes for their families they can afford.' Shortly before leafleting parts of Edinburgh South, an article about the company had appeared in the press stating as follows: - •it described Realmday as having '....duped generous Brits out of £500,000 in donations. Goods that could have saved lives are flogged off instead in market stalls in England and in Eastern Europe.' it asserted that rather than being a charity '..Realmday Ltd are an English limited company - but not for much longer. Companies House are taking steps to have them struck off.' Gavin Brown personally received a leaflet through his door and decided to take action. Along with his team, he delivered a letter to every house in Buckstone and Craigour warning them about the company. As a result, the company got very few goods & clothes. Gavin commented: - “Many legitimate charities rely on doorstep collections and I would like to see them continuing to benefit from them. It was therefore important to warn residents about Realmday – so that people did not feel cheated – and so that any unwanted goods went to legitimate charities.” |
