News - SOUTH EDINBURGH SURVEY RESULTS
Thank you to everyone who took part in the survey in the Summer edition of In Touch. We had a fantastic response from residents all over the constituency. The results were interesting to read and there were also a number of excellent suggestions from residents for future action. For example, one resident wanted more information on how she could contact her local police station quickly. In response to that, the numbers are: - Emergencies 999 Non-emergencies 0131 311 3131 Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 Another resident felt the font of the newsletter was too small for those with less than perfect eyesight – we will take action on this in future editions. One resident made the very important point that while potholes in the road are damaging and inconvenient for motorists, they are highly hazardous for cyclists. We will stress this point to the Council. In terms of the key national challenges we face, residents felt they were all important. However, in terms of the most important challenge the results were: - Making our economy more competitive 42% Protecting our security 26% Improving our quality of life 12% Residents felt the highest priorities for the Scottish Parliament were: - Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour 30% Improving the NHS 28% Cutting back on bureaucracy 21% On the other questions 81% of residents thought that decisive action on the Environment was a priority; 85% were against the abolition of School Boards; 84% were unhappy with the state of the roads (with Morningside Road coming in for the highest number of complaints); 88% did not feel that they got value for money from Council Tax and 89% felt we needed more police on the beat. We will continue to take action on the issues that matter to you and these survey results will help to shape our priorities going forward. |
