News - STOP THE NHS CUTS CAMPAIGN

nhs

The Conservatives have launched a petition in support of our NHS staff and patients as they face the effects of the Labour/Lib Dem Scottish Executive’s poor financial management.

At least 30 hospitals have recently seen cuts to services or will face them in the near future and the acute sector has lost over 7,000 beds since 1999. Good, local services have been centralised in many areas to the undoubted detriment of patients. The petition calls for an end to the cutbacks and calls for local people to be put back in control of NHS services.

Gavin Brown commented: -

“Over the years, NHS staff and the services they provide have saved hundreds of thousands of lives. Sadly, however, the Labour/ Lib Dem Scottish Executive continues with its cost-cutting exercise. There can be little doubt that such a stringent programme of cutbacks across Scotland, without sufficient replacements, will risk damage to the standard of patient care.

Patients, nurses and doctors should not have to put up with Labour and the Liberal Democrats botched reorganizations, cutbacks and closures. The design of local NHS services should be a matter for local people instead of decisions being made behind closed doors without consultation. We need local people back in control of our NHS services.”

Often, healthcare is needed in situations over which we have no control. Unexpectedly we find ourselves in need of all the skill and experience which the NHS can offer. It is in these circumstances that the NHS provides such a vital service. For those crucial minutes, hours, days and weeks in the lives of the men, women and children involved, the NHS becomes their lifeline.

Conservatives believe that the NHS medical staff perform their functions to a remarkable standard in often difficult circumstances. It is vitally important that we support them.
