News - £100 MILLION EXTRA TO TACKLE DRUG REHABILITATIONGavin Brown has welcomed the Scottish Conservative ground-breaking initiative to reduce crime and drug abuse in Scotland. The Scottish Conservatives will be pledging to spend £100m a year of extra money on drugs rehabilitation programmes. This commitment will be at the heart of the election manifesto for the 2007 Scottish Parliament elections. Gavin Brown said: “This is the right thing to do because we need to tackle the appalling human and social costs of drug-taking in Scotland. It also makes financial sense. According to the Government’s own figures, for every £1 spent on drugs treatment, at least £9.50 is saved in criminal justice and health costs.” |
