News - VICTORY IN CARE CHARGE REFUNDS CAMPAIGNFollowing a campaign by the Scottish Conservatives the City of Edinburgh Council is to repay pensioners who were wrongly charged for assistance with meal preparation which should have been covered by free personal care. Gavin Brown said: "I welcome the results of this campaign. It is the successful culmination of a campaign which was started by Conservative MSP David McLetchie back in November 2005. Over £2 million will have to be refunded to an estimated 820 pensioners as a result of the legal advice which the Council has obtained. Edinburgh Council is to be congratulated on the action which it is now taking. However we should be in no doubt that this is a problem created by the Scottish Executive and for which the Scottish Executive should pay. It arose from the inaccurate, contradictory and confusing guidance which was issued to councils by the Executive on the implementation of free personal care.” If you think that you may have been wrongly charged for this service please get in touch with us. |
