News - SELF-DEFENCE DEMONSTRATION
The Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, Peter Duncan MP, was recently in Edinburgh South, where he attended a top-class Tae Kwon-Do demonstration, along with Gavin Brown. The demonstration was organised by Master Peter Harkess, a 7th degree black belt and Mark Harkess, a member of the Scottish Tae Kwon-Do team. Commenting, Gavin (a 1st degree black belt himself) said:- “The purpose of our visit was to promote a positive lifestyle for people in Edinburgh South. Tae Kwon-Do gives people confidence to take care of themselves in difficult situations and teaches them to set goals, as they progress through the belts. There are regular classes all over Edinburgh South, including Morningside, Liberton and Gracemount.” Only weeks after the demonstration, the Evening News reported a story about a heroic young girl who beat off a mugger, using skills learned in Tae Kwon-Do. |
